Monohito Chapter 36 – First Lesson

The morning commotion surrounding Riheed spontaneously settles when Kyrie enters the classroom.

Riheed has a rare relieved face, and Kyrie smiles wryly as the morning homeroom advances on.

“Classes begin today. Each committee will have a meeting in the afternoon, so everyone please don’t forget to participate.”

Without criticizing the noise, Kyrie declares the end of homeroom and starts the lesson preparation.

The first day of classes begins with Kyrie teaching magic basics.

It’s the absolute first class for every first-year department.

The homeroom teacher is in charge, and as the name suggests the basics of magic is taught for one year.

The qualities of a magician and the importance of their senses when magic is used.

And though magic is usable, there’s the basics as well as senses, when there’s a theoretical understanding, the efficacy increases.

Though it was such an important lesson, it was unpopular due to it being difficult to see any visible results.

“Now then, the lesson will be starting.”

The lesson commences with Kyrie’s command.

Even if Riheed is observed, there doesn’t seem to be expectations with this lesson.

For the magic mad Riheed, it’s natural for him to want to know everything, you could say it’s due to that that he spend long years exhaustively studying inside.

When seeing the textbook, he was disappointed that the listing was of known things.

However, Riheed was greatly pleased with Kyrie’s lesson.

The system known as a class was fresh for Riheed.

“Now then, there might be those who have completely forgotten the lesson contents from the first term, let’s review a little. First is about arias. Going by what everyone is aware of about arias, it’s what’s used to perform magic, what is the purpose, anyone?”

Kyrie cuts his words there, some students raise their hand.

Riheed missed the timing to raise his hand.

“Mikene-san then.”

“Yes, arias are used to decide the direction which magic power is used. Each word is meaningful, and magic is completed with the combination of the chanting while releasing magic power.”

“That’s correct. I’m relieved it’s been diligently reviewed.”

“Hmm, I see I see. When being called on, you can show your knowledge with an answer.”

With an understanding going in a strange direction, Riheed decided to raise his hand at once with the following question.

Specifically, he was alerted with his elbow bent so he can raise his hand immediately.

“Well then, other than arias, there’s something with a similar utility, does anybody know it?”

Several hands are raised again with Kyrie’s question.

But before those hands rise, there was a hand which had beautifully risen conspicuously fast.

It was Riheed of course.

After slowing down mentally for a moment from that, Kyrie pulls himself together and designates a student.

“Riheed-kun then.”

“Yea! If you speak of something with an identical usage as an aria, it’s magic formations. It’s significant how each and every shape is combined to form the whole, and magic power is poured to complete the magic. Magic tools can be used to engrave particular shapes. To begin with, magic formations were developed as a means to preserve magic. Consequently, it’s not used with improvised magic. Then there’s the time and space needed to draw it! Above all, the degree of difficulty becomes remarkably higher than an improvised aria. On the other hand, efficacy is high, once the magic formation is completed, magic power only has to be poured in to use the magic, there are many merits. Still, taking both and combining them to use magic has existed since the old days. This is…”

“Ri-Riheed-kun, it’s enough already. Though it was very good, you’re getting into subjects which haven’t been taught yet.”

With Riheed’s overly talkative answer, the entire class including Kyrie were dumbfounded.

The only ones still operating within that were Mikene and Litris.

Because the two are used to Riheed’s astounding actions, they were normally taking beneficial notes.

“Hmm, is it not good with a lengthy reply…”

When Riheed sits on his seat, he considers so by himself.

Seeing that appearance, a smile floats in Kyrie’s heart.

With the students not having too much enthusiasm for this class, he’s considerably glad regarding Riheed’s attitude.

“Now, just as Riheed-kun answered, magic formations can have the same usage as arias. There seems to be a firm understanding of the differences, I’m glad as a teacher.”

“Fuhaha, that’ natural!”

“Though I’m glad, please talk in moderation.”

“Hmm…”

Receiving Kyrie’s caution, Riheed who was laughing loudly shuts his mouth.

“It came up with Riheed-kun’s answer a little bit ago, a magic tool was used with a magic formation  for something which everyone is deeply familiar with. It existed in the old days, that magic power is loaded and a fixed magic can be used to potentially reinforce a staff. That’s widely accepted theory.”

With Kyrie’s small talk mixed in, the student’s interests are attracted and the lesson goes on.

Riheed was also completely drawn in.

 

“Hmm, it was an interesting class!”

“You seem to be really happy.”

“That’s so, it seems to become enjoyable like this.”

The Riheed, Mikene and Litris trio are having lunch in the classroom.

All three are boxed lunches.

Riheed and Mikene are pecking at the wonderful handmade boxed lunch from the maid Aryu.

Litris won’t be defeated and is eating from a good-looking boxed lunch.

Riheed was satisfied with today’s lesson.

There was a fine degree of earnestness during the lesson together with the class.

The whole class was influenced, and because for some reason the lesson was faced with staggering concentration ability, those who were under prepared were left to sigh.

“After this today is the committee meetings.”

“Kuhihi, it’s merely a fun thing!”

“There’s without a doubt no student who looks forward to the meetings.”

Looking shocked at Riheed’s eerie laughter, Mikene says so.

The committee meeting is compulsory participation, there a lot of students not pleased with the regular meeting at the beginning of the term.

“The restricted reading shelf is calling me!”

“You certainly can read if you want to read, but since you have to work, won’t it be severe timewise?”

“Fuhaha, there’s no mistake!”

Riheed is unusually full of confidence.

To begin with, he can secretly read if he wants to, but since the penal regulations which could be imposed when found out are scary, he explored for means to read legally.

Riheed who thought there would be an opportunity if it was the books committee, confirmed with Litris who is in the same committee, knowing it certainly was possible to read during work breaks and other free time, his tension was going through the roof.

Thought if he can’t read it only has to be stealthily.

“By, by the way Riheed-san, about the lesson earlier.”

“Ah, I also want to ask.”

“Hmm? Ask anything! My current mood is excellent! Do you want to know the secret of Mook!? As a matter of fact…”

When Riheed was about to so easily expose the secret of his giant bird familiar Mook, a voice comes from the side.

“Ri-Riheed-kun, I want to hear something from the lesson a little while ago.”

“I’ll teach you by all means.”

“Please teach me as well!”

Several other students surround Riheed with a barrage of questions.

Surprised for an instant, Riheed nods in reply with his usual proud and enthusiastic appearance, and politely answers the questions.

This morning’s lesson with the teacher’s question, from Riheed’s comprehensible answer, the surroundings are aware there’s an abundance of knowledge, the students who felt that, came to inquire about what they couldn’t catch up to.

Mikene and Litris who were interrupted, seeing Riheed’s strange influence causing a change in several classmates’ consciousness after a half-day lesson, look at each and smile.

In this way, Riheed little by little, steadily fits into the class, the surroundings of the classroom’s door become noisy.

And there stood a schoolgirl with a dignified atmosphere together with a premonition of turmoil.
